Brookview Animal Health Center

At Brookview, our staff's goal is to make your pet's experience as stress and pain free as possible. The office has been decorated with a Carribean theme.  The soft yellow walls, plants and music play along with the songs from Sammy the Cockatiel, and Juliet the Umbrella Cockatoo. As you sit in our comfortable couch and chairs, the waiting room has a calming effect on both owners and pets with its waterfall-koi pond.

Our 5 exam rooms and waiting area are spacious and have comfortable chairs or loveseats in each.  Each room is decorated in a different theme. The pets are all cared for by compassionate, pet loving technicians.  Dr. Smith and Dr. Rachael have unbelievable "bedside manners" and a great love for animals.

At Brookview, we are much more than just a hospital. Our staff is there to listen as well as educate. We can help you with the minor questions to a great illness. Let us help your pet today.

The office has three cats that love dogs and kids: Ices:a snow white DSH, Mac, a three legged orange tabby rescued from the Humane Society of North Iowa, and Carlos, a black and white DSH rescued off the streets. They often sit on the counter waiting for someone to pet them. We also have a Russian Tortoise named Tasha in one of our exam rooms.


What We Do

Here at Brookview our caring, qualified staff are happy to help you with any questions concerning your pets health needs. We care for all dog and cat breeds, reptiles, rabbits, guinea pigs, pocket pets. Surgical altering is available on dogs, cats and rabbits.  Declawing is available for cats and rabbits. All surgeries are performed with our surgical laser. Other surgical procedures are available as needed.

    Matthew Smith, DVM, Owner

    Dr. Matthew Smith graduated from the Mason City High School in 1979. In 1983  he received a degree in Microbiology at Iowa State University. He then graduated from Iowa State Veterinary College in 1987.  In 1988 he opened the Manly Veterinary Clinic, where he practiced for 9 years. He then moved his practice to Mason City's west side, near Mercy Hospital, where he practiced for 10 years.  In the summer of 2006, the Practice was moved to its current and permanent home at 1453 4th SE, near the High School.

    Dr. Smith cares for quite a variety of animals at Brookview.  Besides dogs and cats, he also treats exotics and pocket pets. Its common to see a turtle, bird or a guinea pig at the office.

    Dr. Smith has been married to his wife Michelle, who works as a Practice Manager and Veterinary Technician, for the past 31 years.

    They have 2 daughters: Amanda & Cindy. Amanda 26, a graduate of The University of Iowa. She is married to Samuel Jimenez Llanes, a Computer Engineer. They live in Murcia, Spain with their 2 dogs and 2 cats. Cindy 23, lives in Manly with her 2 dogs, four cats, 2 tortises, and 2 snakes. She works at our office as a Vet Assistant.

    For pets, Dr. Smith has his buddy Moose, a large orange tabby cat.

    Rachael Corcoran, DVM

    New to our office May 16, 2011, our new Associate Veterinarian is Dr. Rachael Corcoran. Dr. Rachael graduated from North Central High School in  2003.  She spent a year attending NIACC before transferring to Iowa State University.  She began working for Dr. Smith in the summer of 2003 during her college vacations as a Veterinary Assistant.  In 2007, she received her Bachelors Degree in Animal Science at Iowa State University.  Dr. Rachael attended the ISU Veterinary Medical Center and graduated in 2011.  She resides in Mason City with her cats, Myli and Loki.

    Michelle Smith, Practice Manager

    Dr. Smith has been married to his wife Michelle, who works as a Practice Manager and Veterinary Assistant., for the past 31 years. Michelle grew up in Mason City.  When she's not busy running the Hospital, she is working in her flower garden, tending her chickens, or playing with her three dogs: Cody, a rescued/abused, three legged cockapoo, Teddy, a shih tzu/dachshund mix, and Pepsi, a black toy poodle. Also at home is Janie, a pure Iowa Black, Squirrel, a Himalayen mix, Raven a black DSH, Stubby the canary, and a flock of chickens.

    Tammy Marsh Veterinary Assistant

    Tammy has been our Veterinary Assistant Supervisor since January of 2000. She lives in Mason City on an acreage with an Austrialian Shepherd named Cowboy that will greet you on your way in. Most of  what you'll see running around are all the " misfits " on her acreage, these are all kinds of kitties that Tammy has rescued for one reason or another. She also owns two beautiful horses named Buquero and Diablo, which in her free time she'll spend horseback riding. When the work is done outside and she's finally ready to go in for the night she has two cats waiting for her: Cody, a Siamese, and Brass, a grey tabby domestic short hair.

    Nikki has been with Brookview Animal Health Center as a Veterinary Assistant since April 2007.  When she's not taking care of pets at Brookview, her other love is playing golf with her husband during the summer and watching football in the fall.  Together, living in Mason City, they have two beautiful, very busy daughters at the High School.  Roxy, a Shorkie , a black cat named Calvin, and a handsome Siamese named Brody, who will fetch for hours.

    Cindy Smith Veterinary Assistant

    Cindy  is at home in Manly with her dogs:  Bruno, a dachsund, and Captain, a recently adopted dachsund mix. She also has her cats: Chrissy, Ceaser, Peanut Butter and Jelly Bean, her 2 russian tortises, and her 2 ball pythons. Cindy graduated from North Central High School and works for the "Family Business" at the Clinic and at the Humane Society.

    Tabatha is living out her dream of working with pets as a veterinary assistant. She has two cats: Jezabelle, a long haired tabby, and Buzz, a blue Siamese mix adopted from the Humane Society of North Iowa. She enjoys horseback riding and camping in her free time. When not outdoors, you can commonly find her curled up with a book and a cup of coffee.

    Cathy has been a Receptionist at Brookview since April 2006.  When she's not helping clients at the office, Cathy enjoys spending her time with her husband, children, grand kids and her Golden Retriever mix Kasey, who she adopted through the Humane Society of North Iowa.  She also enjoys camping and fantasy racing.
